*We anticipate that we will admit a new cohort of students for the fall 2023 semester. The application deadline is December 1, 2022.

All students in the PhD program at the Faculty of Business Administration are required to take the following courses:

Waivers will not be granted in the PhD program for previously completed coursework at either the undergraduate or master’s levels.

Additional coursework is required to complete a specialization in general managementoperations and information management or  organizational behavior/human resource management.

* Business 9901 is to be completed before any of Business 9902, 9903, 9904 are attempted.

**Students may elect to take Education 6467 if Business 9903 is not offered in a particular year on the approval of the PhD program director.

**Students may elect to take Education 6466 if Business 9904 is not offered in a particular year on the approval of the PhD program director.

Core Course Descriptions

Philosophy 6015 – Theory of Knowledge

A detailed examination of one problem in the theory of knowledge.

Business 9901 – Approaches to Management Research

This course provides students with a broad overview of three major approaches to management research: modelling, quantitative and qualitative. The purpose of the course is to give students a general understanding of the assumptions, methods, strengths and limitations of each of the three approaches. The course will enable students to make informed choices about the approach and methods they will use in their own research, and to better communicate with and understand research undertaken by those using other approaches.

Business 9902 – Modelling Methods in Management Research

This course introduces students to a broad range of modelling approaches used in management research. On completing the course, students will be able to: understand the strengths and limitations of various modelling approaches; read and understand research articles that use modelling methods; and construct models appropriate for studying a range of management phenomena.

Business 9903 – Quantitative Methods in Management Research

This course examines a variety of statistical methods used in management research. It will prepare students to carry out appropriate analyses of quantitative research data.

Business 9904 – Qualitative Methods in Management Research

This course will build on the introductory methods course by reviewing the various approaches to qualitative inquiry along with their theoretical foundations, and introduce different methods of data collection, analysis and interpretation.
