Masters of Employment Relations (MER) Admission Requirements
Applicants to Memorial’s MER program must have:
Applicants to the MER program must have successfully completed an undergraduate course in statistics, microeconomics, and one of organizational behaviour, sociology of work or labour history from an institution recognized by Senate, normally with a minimum grade of 70% in each course.
Under exceptional circumstances, a person without an undergraduate degree may be admitted.
It is highly recommended that non-Canadian applicants submit a sample of their academic writing and achieve a satisfactory result on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
English Language Proficiency
Applicants who did not complete a four-year baccalaureate degree at a recognized university where English is the primary language of instruction must normally complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and achieve a paper-based score of 580 (or higher), or a computer-based score of 237 (or higher), or an Internet-based score of 92-93 (or higher).
Applicants who have completed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test must achieve an overall band score of 7.0 or higher.
Those applicants who also submit results of the Test of Written English (TWE), with a score of four or better, will receive preference in the evaluation of English proficiency.
Information regarding both tests is available from the Educational Testing Service. Other equivalent tests acceptable to the School of Graduate Studies may be considered.
Applicants for the master of employment relations program must submit their applications to the School of Graduate Studies by the following dates:
- Fall semester: Feb. 15 (full-time and part-time students)
- Winter semester: Aug. 15 (part-time students*)
* Full-time students are not normally admitted to the winter semester.
